June 10, 2020, Weekly Update to Parents

PRUSD prides itself on ensuring all students are provided the best instruction in an ever-changing learning environment. After many conversations with staff, leaders, and parents, we are planning to open up on August 18th with all students receiving full-day instruction while complying with the Nevada County Public Health guidelines. To successfully open, we will need your support when we do so in complying with any newly adopted protocols that will help keep the virus off our campuses. We recognize that this spring has been challenging, and as educators, we believe that the best instruction happens when learning takes place in our schools.

As we are heading into the next phase of the California reopen plan, we expect schools to be allowed to open with modifications. We look to our county public health officials to give us guidance in this area. In preparation for all situations, we are also continuing to plan for distance learning and a blended model if we see cases that increase across Nevada County, which may cause a change in recommendation from the Nevada County Public Health.

We have Arete as an option for home-based instruction for families that may not be ready to come back on campuses. If you had a hard time with home-based education this spring, this is not a viable option, and we ask for you to remain in our comprehensive school sites.   Please do not dual enroll in both home-based and traditional schools within our district. If you have done so, please commit to one type of schooling so we can plan accordingly for staffing purposes.

As I have stated before, if plans change or we receive new information from our public health officials, I will send an update as needed.
