Parent Communication #3

Dear PRUSD Families,

We hope letter #3 finds you well.  We wanted to take a moment to update you on what is happening thirty-three days into school.  During this period leading up to parent conferences scheduled for next week, students are fully immersed in daily lessons and teachers are providing the necessary support for students who may be struggling.  We continue to ask you to engage nightly with your child in checking their work for the day and supporting them with their homework.

A few ways of positively engaging your children nightly are:

  1. Establish open communication where your child feels comfortable discussing their progress.  Encourage them to share their experiences, challenges, and achievements.
  2. Ask them to show their work and explain what they have learned.  If they are not able to explain their work, they may have not learned it.  It is our goal that your children can teach the parents what they learn every single day.
  3. Continually remain connected with your child’s teacher if your child is not able to explain what they are learning daily.  Keep in mind the younger the child, the more you will need to help them explain what they are learning.  This is where the partnership between teachers and parents is essential.
  4. For the older students, sit down and ask them what their goals are for the school year. If you have middle school-age children, start to ask what their interests are so you can help achieve their interests or aspirations that could lead them to a career one day.  It’s never too early to start asking.
  5. Celebrate your children’s achievements.  I urge you to truly celebrate your child’s achievements when they have met a goal or accomplished something very difficult. This reinforces perseverance and drive.  Small celebrations can go a long way when a child realizes that their parents or other adults notice their hard work.

As a reminder, by actively engaging your child in their educational journey, you will be able to provide the support and encouragement they need to be successful beyond the classroom.

School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safety:
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and there are a few specific reminders for each of our drop-off and pick-up processes. We kindly request your cooperation and adherence to these reminders to maintain a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up process.

*Be mindful of other vehicles and pedestrians and follow the instructions of our staff members on duty.

*Drive slowly, remain patient, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

*Once your child is safely in the vehicle, exit the pick-up zone promptly to allow space for other vehicles.
*In case of any unexpected delays, please inform the school office, and we will ensure your child's safety until                your arrival.

*If you are waiting for your child long after the dismissal bell has rung, please park in a parking spot so the                     pick-up line exit without being held up for long periods of time.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation and understanding in following these drop-off and pick-up procedures. By working together, we can ensure a safe and efficient process for all families.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your partnership and are always here to assist you.
